QMV Trivia Night Raises Vital Funds For The Flemington Homework Club
QMV’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) group held their annual trivia night last Friday evening to raise funds for The Flemington Homework Club. CSR Chair, David Mehmed would like to extend his appreciation to everyone who took part. We raised $4,295 for this worthy cause and could not have done so without the generosity of our guests.
TelstraSuper and UniSuper combined forces to ultimately take out the title. Their table, ‘The Australian Job’ were crowned winners in a close finish with, ‘The Discovery Channel’ a carefully selected group of David Mehmed’sbrightest friends.
Special gratitude to QMV’s valued friends at CBUS, Mercer, TelstraSuper, NAB, Plum and UniSuper for your kind support and making the night a wonderful success!
It is a privilege to support the children and young people of Flemington with their homework in the hope that they continue learning, enjoy learning and realise their full potential. The homework group supports approximately 25 young people each evening, aged between seven and 17 years.
Most of the young people are part of the African community in Flemington and have no access to computers, internet and teaching assistance after school. Their parents are extremely grateful for the support shown to help equip their children with the knowledge and skills they themselves are unable to help provide.
Taycier (grade 6 student)
“My name is Taycier. I have been coming to Flemington homework club with my sister Tasneem for over 4 years now. Homework club has been a very important place to come to for the community around Flemington because every week kids like us come to homework club to get help with their homework. All the kids get help from tutors with different subjects, the tutors are very helpful and very smart.”
The Flemington Homework Club is a part of the African Program run by Jesuit Social Services. They are a volunteer-based program which provide peer support and mentoring to the children and young people living in public housing in Flemington and nearby suburbs. To get involved please visit jss.org.au/ or call Kara Mackay, Co-ordinator of the Settlement Program. There are many ways to help including donations, volunteering and workplace giving.
Best regards
The team at QMV!
