What do you do at QMV and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?
I am a lead consultant specialising in business analysis. I have experience working in a variety of areas, ranging from data restoration, process mapping and SuperStream implementation. For the last couple of years, I have been working on regulatory projects for our clients, ensuring that they remain compliant with the ever changing Superannuation legislation.
I am currently working with one of our clients on a transition away from the traditional trustee/administrator relationship to a software as a service (SaaS) administration model.
What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on/or have completed?
One of my latest client engagements, the role I ended up filling was different to what was expected, much more project management focused. One of the skills as a consultant is hitting the ground running, I needed to quickly come up to speed with project governance and management to deliver these projects. This experience has allowed me to lead three of the streams of work for the client transition that I am currently working on.
Who or what has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
I have always loved solving problems and using my experience to help our clients see things differently. I have been lucky to have had managers/more experienced colleges who have believed in me (sometimes more than I did in myself) and pushed me out of my comfort zone to gain new skills and experiences. I believe that we should strive to constantly learn new skills, I definitely don't want to be someone who is set in their ways.
Also, I admire people who admit their mistakes (not an easy thing to do, and I struggle with this) and who are still willing to learn no matter what their position or how many years of experience that they have. Just because you have always done something one way doesn't mean to say that there is another way to look at it.
What behaviour or personality trait is most important to you, and why?
Adaptability is one thing that I pride myself on and it has contributed greatly to my success. Working as a consultant you need to be able to adapt to the work/client that you are assigned to as no two clients are the same.
I also like a changing work environment. Working as a consultant we do, generally, move around a lot which has allowed me to experience new ways of working and expand my skills.
What’s one thing that surprised you about working at QMV?
Even after all these years (I have been working at QMV for over 10 years) and expansion of the team, that it still has a family feel to working here. If you ever have a questions/issue that you need help with someone has usually gone through it and is more than willing to help.
